The short version

Family, Wherever (“the Service”) is a hobby project operated by an individual developer (“Operator”). The Service is designed to collect limited information needed to help you plan trips with your group. The Operator does not sell personal information or share it for advertising purposes.

What information is collected

To make the Service work, the following information is collected:

  • Account information: Your name and email address when you create an account.
  • Trip content: Information you add to the Service, including trip details, booking information, chat messages, activities, tasks, and packing lists.
  • Forwarded emails: If you forward emails (such as flight or hotel confirmations) to the Service, the contents are processed to extract travel details for your trip. The Operator does not permanently store the original email, though infrastructure providers may retain standard server logs for a limited period.
  • Server logs: Standard server logs (such as IP addresses, timestamps, and browser types) automatically generated when you use the Service. These logs are used for security and troubleshooting.

How your information is used

Your information is used to:

  • Operate and secure the Service.
  • Allow you to collaborate with other members of your trips.
  • Send essential emails such as login links, trip invitations, and notifications about membership or role changes.

The Operator does not run behavioral analytics, marketing trackers, or profile-building algorithms.

Who can see your information

Your trip members: The Service is a collaborative tool. Information you add to a trip — including your name, travel details, and messages — is visible to other members of that trip.

Infrastructure providers: The Service relies on third-party service providers (such as hosting, database, and email delivery providers) to operate. These providers process data only as necessary to operate the Service on behalf of the Operator.

Integrated services: Some features of the Service (such as maps) rely on third-party services that may receive standard web traffic data (such as your IP address) directly when you use those features.

Business transfers: If the Service is acquired, merged, or transferred to another operator, your information may be transferred as part of that transition.

Legal requirements: Data may be disclosed if required by law or to defend the Operator’s legal rights.

The Operator does not sell personal information to third parties.

Cookies

The Service uses cookies and local storage strictly to keep you logged in and make the Service function. There are no third-party tracking or advertising cookies.

Deleting your data

To request export or deletion of your personal data, contact the Operator at hello@famwherever.com.

  • Account deletion: The Operator will attempt to remove your account and personal details.
  • Shared trip content: As noted in the Terms of Service, collaborative content you contributed to a trip — including chat messages, itinerary items, and tasks — may remain visible to other trip members after account deletion or departure so the trip is not disrupted. Your personal identifying information (name and email) will be removed or replaced with a generic label.
  • Backups: Deletion may not immediately remove all residual copies from backups or server logs.

As stated in the Terms of Service, accounts inactive for 12 months or more may be deleted along with all associated data. The Operator will attempt to notify you by email before deletion.

Children’s privacy

The Service is not intended for anyone under the age of 13. The Operator does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to the Service, contact the Operator so the account can be deleted.

Data security

The Operator takes reasonable administrative and technical measures to protect the information stored by the Service. However, no system can be guaranteed to be completely secure. In the event of a data breach that compromises personal information, the Operator will make reasonable efforts to notify affected users via email.

Data storage

The Service is hosted and operated in the United States. By using the Service, you understand that your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the US.

Data retention

Personal information is generally retained for as long as your account is active or as needed to operate the Service and comply with legal obligations. Some information may remain in backups or server logs for a limited period.

Changes to this policy

The Operator may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If significant changes are made, you will be notified through the Service or via the email address associated with your account.
